The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern – Book Review

Almost four years ago, I received a copy of The Night Circus through the book club I participated in at my college. As soon as I opened the pages, I was pulled into the magical story of Celia and Marco. Ever since then, I have been wanting to reread this, so I could experience the magic all over again. Luckily, I got that chance, and yes, it was just as wonderful as the first time around!

Let’s just start this review off by saying I loved this book. Although this happens to be my second time reading this, I felt as impressed as ever, constantly turning the page to find out what happened next. Morgenstern successfully created an atmospheric world for the reader to step into. I couldn’t help it, all I wanted was to be eating caramel popcorn and drinking hot cocoa right along with the characters. But seriously, I think I would be a Rêvuer if I were in this world. The stans of the circus, if you will.

Despite what the Goodreads summary makes it out to be, this book unfolded at a leisurely pace. The romance was not the focal point until more than half-way through the book. All of the action is incredibly subtle. However, I think I enjoyed this book so much because of these reasons. This book gives readers a lot of time to breath, which is something you don’t find a lot of in this genre.

The author framed the book within various points of time and various characters. Pro tip: Make sure to know “when” the story is while reading, it will make it much more enjoyable. I loved this approach because it felt mysterious and kept me on my toes. I liked making connections as I continued reading the story, and I appreciated that the entire book came full circle in the end, all the characters finding their conclusion.

Overall, I highly recommend this book, especially for enjoying within the next three months! The atmosphere and interesting plot make it a perfect read for cold nights, wrapped up in a blanket.

  1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a negative review of this book. I’m glad you loved it just as much as everyone else.
And I think I’ll have to give this one a chance sooner rather than later. But I’m so scared because everyone is praising it so much and my expectations are sky high!
It does sound like my kind of book, though.
    Great review!

    1. It definitely gets a lot of praise. The pace is slower than I usually enjoy but I loved the world so much that it made it worth it. I hope you enjoy it when you read it!
