Spooky Books I Want to Read this Spooky Season: October TBR

My TBR this month is… extensive. For one, this is my favorite time of year, full of my favorite types of books, SPOOKY BOOKS. But also, I am a little bit behind on my Goodreads challenge and on the list of 20 books I wanted to read in 2020 (click here to see the list). So I am packing this TBR probably a little too much, but a girl can dream!

I am also hosting the Hocus Pocus Readathon with a bunch of other really cool bookworms, so that is going to inform my TBR as well. You can learn more about this readathon here!

Also, happy first day of BLOGTOBER! This is the second year I am doing it on this blog, and the first year I am doing it on my brand new lifestyle blog, Jackie Em! That is 62 posts this month… but whose counting?

Anyway, let’s get to the fun stuff, books.

Hocus Pocus Readathon TBR (Team Trick or Treaters)

1. Group Book

Book cover of The Girl who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill

The group book for Team Trick or Treaters is The Girl who Drank the moon by Kelly Barnhill. I don’t actually know a lot about this book… or anything about it, but I am interested by the title so there is that!

2. Dress up as a character while you read a book

Book cover of The Diviners by Libba Bray

I guess I can really pick any book for this prompt. This is one of my 20 books to read in 2020, and I hear it is a great atmospheric book for October so why not throw it in there?

Now, which character am I going to dress up as while I read this book is the real question. I am thinking Buttercup, the cat from The Hunger Games! I thought that would be fun and spooky!

3. Dani: Read a book about siblings

Ink and Bone book cover

I actually had no idea that this book was about siblings until I saw it on this post from Paper Fury! I had to look up recommendations because I couldn’t think of any books with siblings. But apparently, this book has twin brothers! I have been meaning to read this book anyway!

4. Allison: Read a book about witches

Broken Wish by Julie C. Dao book cover

I received a copy of Broken Wish by Julie Hao from the online YALLWEST that was held this year and I was so thrilled! I love any book about magic and witches. This book comes out October 6, so get ready!

Bonus/Extra books on my TBR

I am… ambitious this month. I have a lot of books to finish before the end of the year. Will all of these get read… probably not. But they are definitely no my TBR!

Book cover of Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

I am definitely not planning on reading the entirety of The Priory of the Orange Tree. This book is a chonker! It is large. Very large. But I do want to finish it before the end of the year, so I should start it as soon as I can!

The Darkest Minds book cover

This book has been on my TBR forever. To be honest, the cover is the only thing about it that reminds me of fall, but I know there is magic in it, in some form. Magic = Halloween, right?

Book cover of Vicious by V.E. Schwab

Vicious is supposed to be about the villain of the story. That is such an interesting concept to me, and something I think will be perfect for my October TBR!

Book cover of A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

Another V.E. Schwab book because I really want to understand they hype around this author. I like her as a person, from the limited amount that I know from social media, but I want to understand why other’s are so obsessed with these books. I have seen people’s beautiful shelves dedicated to this author, I want to understand.

Book cover of This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab

Yes, another V.E. Schwab book, this time one of her YA books. See above for reasoning behind this book!

For some reason, this time of year I always get this weird boost of confidence that I can read way more in 3 months than I have read in 9 months. Every year I try and every year I fail… but maybe this year?

Anyways, what spooky books are you reading this month? Any I should add to my ever growing TBR?

Love, Jackie
