The New Year Book Tag

It is a shiny, brand new year, which brings new hopes, including plans for a lot of reading and a lot of blogging. Every new year, I feel like I have a renewed love of reading and blogging, and 2020 is no different. To kick this year off, I will be doing The New Year Book Tag. I know we are already over two weeks into the year, but I am still catching up on life, so bare with me!

In 2018, I completed this tag, and I think it will be fun to compare my answers from the two posts and see how much I have changed, or stayed the same. Click here to see the post from 2 years ago!

How many books are you planning on reading in 2020?

My goal every year has been 50 for a long time, so I have a feeling this isn’t going to change from 2018. But you want to know a fun fact? I have never actually finished one of my Goodreads reading challenges. But hey, I still have hope. I think this year will be the year! Although, it is two weeks into the year and Goodreads is already telling me I’m 2 books behind. BUT I MUST STAY POSITIVE!

“I set my Goodreads goal for 50 books this year.”

2018 Me

Yup, nothing has changed.

Name 5 books you didn’t get to in 2019, but want to make a priority in 2020.

All of these books are very high on my TBR, and they have been for… quite some time. I think you all know what I’m talking about. However, all of these come highly recommended, and I can’t wait to see what all the hype is about!

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

The Thousandth Floor by Katherine McGee

A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab

Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

To all the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han”

2018 Me

Hey, The Thousandth Floor is still there. Are we surprised? Really, the only book that I have read on this list is Siege of Storm, and I didn’t even read that in 2018. Apparently, I wasn’t serious about making these books a priority haha. Stay tuned next year to see if I read any of them in 2020!

What genre do you want to read more of?

Honestly, I would love to read more historical fiction. I tend to lean towards fantasy, which I’m not planning on changing in 2020, but I have always had this feeling that I would really enjoy some good historical fiction.

Here are a couple historical fiction novels I have my eyes on. They both sound super interesting, and I have heard so many amazing things about both of these stories.

“I am not known to read a lot of contemporary fiction so I want to try to pick up some of those.”

2018 Me

Hey, I still don’t read a lot of contemporary fiction, but I have come to terms with the fact that I am just not a fan of that genre. Sure, I will read one when the premise really draws my interest, but I don’t search for them.

Name 3 non-book related goals for 2020.

Wow, this feels so difficult, considering my life basically revolves around books.

  1. Find more enjoyment in my life outside of work (instead of constantly thinking about it)
  2. Work on my art (I am very very very amateur and I would love to see growth)
  3. Save as much money as possible

“Mental health

Exercise

Writing”

2018 Me

These are still 3 very important things to think about, especially about writing, but I thought it was too close to being book related lol. But totally down to add these to my list.

What’s a book you’ve had forever that you still need to read?

6186357

This book has been on my radar for YEARS! Since The Hunger Games brought me into the world of reading, the dystopian genre has held a special place in my heart. I just know I would enjoy these books! So, 2020 will be the year I read them… maybe.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard”

2018 Me

Yup, still haven’t read that book.

One word that you are hoping 2020 will be.

Calm. I just want to feel relaxed and comfortable where I am, while still remaining productive.

“Happy!”

2018 Me

Happy would be nice, but calm is still my priority. I just want to find the zen.

I have been crazy overwhelmed lately, hence the unofficial blog hiatus that I have been on since October. But, I am motivated to make this year the best I can. I want to really focus on my blog, my bookstagram, and other stuff that actually makes me happy.

What are some of your goals for 2020? Comment them down below, so I can steal them!

Love, Jackie
