The Christmas Carol Book Tag

Do you prefer modern Christmas movies or classic Christmas movies? What are your go-to holiday movies when you start a Christmas movie marathon? For me, I am a fan of modern holiday films. Some of my favorites are The Santa Clause and The Christmas Chronicles. However, I do love a good classic every once in a while, which is why I am excited to by completing The Christmas Carol Book Tag today.

Can you believe there are less than two weeks left in 2022? This entire year has felt like a dream… or should I say a nightmare. A lot happened for me, and it definitely wasn’t all good. So although I am terrified by how fast time has been moving, I am thrilled that in a short time, I will be able to start over with a new year.

A new year brings a new yearly TBR, new blogging ideas, and hopefully a new source of income! I have a lot of goals for the coming year and I am excited to start with my best foot forward.

But anyway, I don’t want to start wishing time away. So I am going to celebrate the holiday season by completing The Christmas Carol Book Tag. I found this tag on Kira Jeanett’s blog, so go check out their site! This tag was originally created by Lauren Wade on Youtube in 2019.

These questions are based on the classic Christmas movie, The Christmas Carol. They are a lot of fun. I can’t wait to answer them!

1. The Ghost of Christmas Past: A book that was a childhood favorite

Throughout my entire childhood, The Big Green Pocketbook by Candice Ransom and Felicia Bond was my absolute favorite story. It is about a young girl who runs errands with her mom, slowly collecting different items from every stop they make.

I don’t know what it was about this picture book, but I loved it. I loved watching the main character collect random things and fill her big green pocketbook. Now, I am an adult who collects things and loves running errands. I think this book had a bigger impact on me than I ever thought.

2. The Ghost of Christmas Present: A recent book that you think will become one of your all time favorites

One of my most recent five-star reads is The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang. This book was a phenomenal debut novel that deserves all the hype it gets. Following Rin, a student at the best military school in the country, this book is full of war, action, and drama. It also has incredible characterization, which we all know I love.

My goal for 2021 is to read the rest of the books in the series. Both The Dragon Republic and The Burning God are bound to be five-star reads for the coming year.

3. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come: A book coming out next year that you’re most excited about

Fantasy will always be one of my favorite genres, so of course, I am excited for the upcoming release of Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan, and it isn’t just because of the gorgeous book cover. This book has such positive early reviews, I am excited to see why everyone has been loving it.

This story is about Xingyin, who has been living on the moon in isolation. When her magic suddenly grows, she is revealed to the one person she was hiding from. She must flee to save her life.

This sounds like such a fun and magical read. Perfect for the new year! This book comes out next month, in January!

4. Bah, Humbug: A book that everyone else loves that you just can’t stand

I don’t know if I would say I can’t stand this book, but I certainly wasn’t the biggest fan of Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. This was pretty disappointing after all the positive reviews I have heard about this book over the years.

There was something about the lack of characterization and the contrived plot that turned me off. It definitely didn’t excite me as much as I thought it would.

5. Bob Cratchit: An old dependable that you always recommend

As one of my favorite books, I am always recommending The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. This book is magical, fantastical, and enthralling. I have reread this book twice now, and I still can never get enough.

This book is about a circus that shows up and is only open during the night hours. Within this mysterious circus is a family of unique individuals with their own lives outside of the circus. This story follows a couple of these characters.

This book will always mean so much to me. I adore the characters and the world that Morgenstern created. I want other people to enjoy it as much as I have.

6. Tiny Tim: An underhyped book that you think deserves more love

I have talked about this book quite a lot on this blog this year, but I definitely don’t see enough people talking about the quiet sweetness that is The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yoko Ogawa.

You will love this book if you enjoy calm, subtle books. No action, no big plot points, and no extraneous drama. Just soft, warm vibes. This book is about a professor who only has a short-term memory of 80 minutes because of a head injury and a housekeeper who takes care of him. Through this, a beautiful relationship grows.

7. Today? Why it’s Christmas morning!: What’s a book that always get’s you in the mood for Christmas (apart from The Christmas Carol)

I am not one to read a lot of Christmas-themed books, so this question is difficult. So I am going to choose a genre rather than a specific book.

Whenever the holiday season comes around, you can always find me reading dystopian novels. It is my favorite genre, so I love reading it during one of my favorite seasons. My most recent favorite in this genre is The Grace Year by Kim Liggett.

I know dystopian stories don’t exactly scream Christmas, but there is something about the nostalgia I have for the genre that makes it my first pick for the season. It was fall and winter when I first read my favorite series, The Hunger Games, and ever since, I am always in the mood for more during the winter.

8. The Muppet Christmas Carol: Your favorite film adaptation of a book

I will forever scream to anyone who will listen about how good the adaptations of The Hunger Games books are. I even go as far as to say that the movies are… better than the book. But only by a little bit. And they are both AMAZING! (This means a lot coming from someone whose favorite book is The Hunger Games!)

The film creators for this movie did amazing at giving President Snow screen time that the books never did. It made me fall in love with the dynamic between Snow and Katniss even more, and it is way easier to understand the motivations of both characters.

I feel good about the books I read this year. Although I have been struggling with reading slumps and 3-star reads, I feel like I read a fair amount for how difficult this year was.

Now I can start thinking ahead to what I am going to read next year! Do you have any recommendations?

Now I am also in the mood to go watch a holiday movie. Perhaps I will watch The Christmas Carol, in honor of The Christmas Carol Book Tag.

Love, Jackie
