Summary

This is the sequel to Pretty Wicked, and it follows Ryann Wilkinson after she was convicted of six murders at the age of fifteen. She is living in county prison, dealing with cruel women and bad food. All she desires is to be released so she can follow her darkest desires. She finally sees a light when two impressive lawyers decide to take on her case with the hope of getting her out of prison. All she has to do is spend weeks being psychologically evaluated by an insecure doctor with a rough past.
This can be read as a standalone as well as a part of a series.

Review

It was surprising to find that this book was set twelve years after the first book. It was so interesting looking into the crime and psychological aspects of the world. I rarely read books in this genre so it was new for me.

The main thing I enjoyed about this story is the switching of perspectives throughout the story. We move into the psychologist, Dr. Clafin’s, perspective. I liked getting a reprieve from Ryann’s mind and I sometimes found that I was more interested in Dr. Clafin’s story than Ryann’s. I was often frustrated with the doctor, however, because she was not seeing the person the Ryann is. It is an odd feeling rooting against the main character but I find myself doing that in this book, as I did in the previous novel.

I followed this book easier than the first book and enjoyed it more. I enjoyed seeing Ryann dealing with the aftermath of the crimes she committed and was frustrated at the efforts people were making to get her released because as the readers, we understand that she is lying to everyone. It is also an interesting perspective from a prison. I have never actually read a book from this setting so I was interested in this.

As mentioned in my previous review, Ryann frustrates me to no end. I don’t like the way she talks about people. She also does some pretty terrible things and, as mentioned above, PLEASE do not read this if you are impacted by self-harm and/or suicide. Ryann is manipulative and inappropriate in the way she talks about others. Yeah… Ryann is not my favorite character but it doesn’t ruin the story for me.

The part that made me most upset was the ending. But like… in the best way possible. The last 25% of the book was probably the best and it almost made me bump my rating up to 4 stars if it were not for some problems I have with Ryann. The ending was so intense and amazing and I am definitely babbling right now. But… is there going to be a third book?
