Wow, who knew there was a Hocus Pocus Book Tag? You’d think I would know about it! It seems like a perfect book tag to include in my Blogtober this year, considering I worked with a bunch of bookworms this year to put on the Hocus Pocus Readathon. I wish I had known about this book tag during the readathon, but better late than never!
I found this tag on The Bookish Chick, so go check out this blog for some fun bookish content! The original creator of the tag is Never Not Reading. Let’s get started!
The Sanderson Sisters: A Great Trilogy
Oops… another mention of my favorite book trilogy in this world. Thank you for putting up with my insistent mentions of this series in every tag I do on this blog. Anyway, I won’t say much more except yes… this is a great trilogy.
Winifred Sanderson: A book with a truly evil female villain
Lady Lilith from A Curse so Dark and Lonely is definitely one of the most nefarious characters I have ever read. There is no moral greyness in her, she is all bad. I hated her from the moment she stepped onto the page. She had too much fun with Gray and Rhen’s pain. Click here for my review of this book!
Sarah Sanderson: A book that uncannily attracts children
I am not sure if I was supposed to pick a children’s book for this, but the word, “uncannily,” made me think of something else. The Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo has been put on the young adult shelf of bookstores recently despite being marketed as an adult novel. There are some pretty dark themes in this book, or so I hear, so it is definitely uncanny that young readers are being attracted to it.
Mary Sanderson: A book that is just plain silly
I am not sure if I have ever read a book that is just plain silly, but I think Talking as Fast as I Can by Lauren Graham was light-hearted and sweet. I loved getting a bit of an inside look into her life, especially the portions in relation to Gilmore Girls.
Max: A book that is trying really hard to be cool, but doesn’t always succeed
I think a lot of people will agree with me on this, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by John Tiffany and Jack Thorne tried so hard to live up to the epic series it followed. However, it did not reach the high hopes of many Harry Potter fans out there. I think maybe the hype for this book was a little too high.
Dani: A book that isn’t afraid to tell it like it is
Speak is a middle-grade book that explores a high-school student dealing with the aftermath of rape. It is a pretty raw and dark portrayal of it, so careful if you decide to pick it up, definitely make sure you are in the right headspace. This book has a pretty important message that I hope helps a lot of young people.
Binx: A book series that just won’t die
I guess I am bringing this series up twice in this tag. I think we are all aware of the fact that the Harry Potter series will not die! They are definitely capitalizing on this series, with books, movies, theme parks, food, plushies, clothes, and whatever merchandise you can think of. I wonder when they will stop adding new things to this series…
Ice: A book with a character that’s as dumb as a rock
I was struggling to find an answer to this prompt, I don’t think I have ever read a book with a completely dumb character. So instead, I am going with an oblivious character, and that is Mr. Saubertuck from Sheets. He had no idea what the laundromat meant to Marjorie. Thank goodness for Wendell! You can read my full review of this book here!
The Black Flame Candle: A book or series you wish you could resurrect
I guess it would be a little obvious if I said The Hunger Games? Except, we are getting an actual resurrection of that series so YAY! So, I am going with Nimona for this question. That ending! I want to know more about Nimona, and why she is the way she is. And I want to know what happens with Ballistar Blackheart and Ambrosius Goldenloin. This graphic novel definitely needs more additions!
Headless Billy Butcherson: A book that’s not as bad as people make it out to be
I think this happens to a lot of popular books, but everyone loves it and then when it gets SUPER popular, everyone hates it. I am going to be honest, I am a fan of this book! It was one of the first books that would not leave my mind the whole time I was reading it. Of course, the first book in the series is the best, it was so unique and gripping.
Winifred Sanderson’s Spell Book: A book with a mind of its own
Did Laini Taylor write Strange the Dreamer, or did Strange the Dreamer write Laini Taylor? That is the real question. The world that Taylor created is magnificent and wonderful and beautiful and all those wonderful adjectives. I’m not really sure how I was supposed to answer this prompt, but I honestly have no idea how Laini Taylor came up with this world. It must have been an amazing and difficult writing process!
Gary Marshall: A book with a cameo
I read this book over a year ago, but it follows two of the side characters from The Almost Boyfriend, and it featured cameos from the main characters. Although I haven’t had a chance to read The Almost Boyfriend, I loved seeing Devon and Sam. They were such fun characters and I am sure those who have read their book loved their cameos even more.
Ah, I loved completing this tag! It was such a fun way to get ready for the 24-hour marathon of Hocus Pocus that Freeform plays every year on Halloween. Does anyone else watch it? I can usually only watch it once.
Let me know if you complete this tag, I would love to read your answers! Also, what are your Halloween plans? I have work, but then I am coming home and watching Halloween movies! The best!
Oh my gosh! This was so fun! Agreed about Strange the Dreamer!
I loved this tag so much! And yes! Strange the Dreamer is from another world.
You’ve got some great picks here! And Sheets is a perfect example for that one!
