Halloweentown Book Tag

Hello, all of you spooky people! Over the course of this month, I think I have made it pretty clear how much I love Halloweentown. I watch all four movies every year during the month of October. They bring me SO MUCH joy! Therefore, the logical conclusion was for me to create the Halloweentown Book Tag!

On my quest to find and complete all of the autumn/Halloween book tags on the internet, I noticed that I couldn’t find any tag dedicated to this magical film franchise. If there is one, let me know! I would love to read it. However, in the meantime, I have created my very first book tag, The Halloweentown Book Tag, and I dedicated it all to this wonderful movie!

I had a lot of fun creating this book tag, and I hope you have fun completing it!

Here’s what to do:

  1. Mention the creator of the tag, Bookish Coffee Blog
  2. If you were tagged, mention who tagged you!
  3. Answer the questions *duh*
  4. Have fun!
  5. Bonus: watch the movie while you answer the questions!

Halloween gives kids ideas about there being magic

Name a book that is full of magic

Book cover of The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus is full of so much magic. I reread this book recently and was reminded of the magical atmosphere of the circus. I would give so much money to walk around Le Cirque des Rêves and eat the amazing sounding food and looking in on the mystical tents. Literally, every part of the circus is magical and mysterious.

Halloween is cool!

Name one book from your October TBR

Book cover of The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw

I have a pretty extensive TBR for the month, which you can look at here, and I am trying so hard to finish them, even though I haven’t finished one and we have ten days… But anyway, I bought The Wicked Deep specifically for this month. I heard so many good and witchy things about it, I knew it would fit perfectly into my month of spooky reads. Mark my words, I will get to this book before Halloween!

Nobody really appreciates my taste in weird stuff

Name your favorite underrated book

Book cover of The Progeny by Tosca Lee

I was really surprised by how much I loved this book. It follows two groups of people, the descendants of Elizabeth Bathory (Bloody Mary) and the descendants of her victims. This book is such a fun, adventurous read with a really interesting premise. I received a copy of this novel for review, and immediately fell in love.

The Cromwells are powerful witches, and it took the power of all of them to defeat the evil

Name a powerful fictional family

Book Covers of the Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

Come one, you know I couldn’t complete a spooky tag without mentioning this magical series. For this question, I am not going to talk about the Weasly’s, but I am going to mention the found family of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Harry was alone for most of his childhood, so when he came to Hogwarts, I was so pleased that he found a family of his own. I was equally pleased that this family stayed with him until the very end when they all took their kids to the Hogwarts express.

Halloweentown was written about in a book, so maybe it’s real, maybe it’s not

Name your favorite non-fiction or historical fiction book

Book cover of All the Light we Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

Wow, I am such a fan of this book. It is told in dual perspectives on two different sides of a war. The characters were beautifully developed and the short chapters pushed the book along at a nice pace. It may have taken me almost 2 months to finish this book, but the writing was so magnificent, I just wanted to savor every last bit of it.

Mayor Kalabar wants revenge

Name a book that you thought you would enjoy but ended up not

Book cover of Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

I have talked about this book quite a bit recently. It is was the first book that I read, where the hype truly let me down. You can see my full thoughts here, but I found the writing underdeveloped and the characters boring. The premise is something I am definitely interested in, so I am flipping between reading the rest of the series or not. But at this point, it isn’t high on my list of priorities.

Instant Witch’s Brew: Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t

Name your favorite or least favorite book under 200 pages

Book cover of Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire

This answer was pretty easy. This book is quick, mysterious, and heart-warming. I am a sucker for boarding school stories and this one adds a special twist. The magical elements made the story all the more enjoyable and I adored almost all of the characters. You can read my full review of this book here.

Time works differently in Halloweentown

Name a book that was so good it made time stop

Book cover of Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman

When I started this book, I expected that I was going to love it because I am a science-fiction fan. However, I had no idea just how much I was going to love it. I read over half of this book in one night. The formatting of the book helped with this, but the plot moved quickly and the adventure was intoxicating. You can click here to read my full review.

Mortals see mortals do

Name a book featuring non-human characters interacting with human characters

Cover of the graphic novel, sheets by Brenna Thummler

Wendell is a ghost who visits the human world. I love reading the interactions between Wendell and the other ghosts, but I also loved reading his interactions with humans. This graphic novel was such a fun read, and you can click here for my full review.

Luke helps save the day

Name a character who you thought was bad but ended up having redeeming qualities

Book Cover of Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

I mean, the premise of this graphic novel is that the main character is working for a villain, so of course, I am going to suspect that Ballister Blackheart is evil… he is the villain! However, as you continue on with the story, you can see how much he cares for Nimona and how much he values other human lives. I am all for morally grey characters, and that is exactly what we get from this story.

An evil force is at work in Halloweentown. We have to put Merlin’s Talisman in the giant pumpkin to save everybody

Name your favorite fictional villain and hero

Book covers of The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins

I was going to try to think of a unique answer, considering I talk about this series constantly, but who am I kidding. There is literally no other villain/hero relationship I love more than President Snow and Katniss. I love seeing the interaction between these two characters. I know, I have weird loving feelings for both of them, including President Snow.

Halloweentown is saved!

Name a book with a really satisfying ending

Book cover of Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

I am serious, I tried really hard to come up with a different answer to this question, but I couldn’t. I really did appreciate what Suzanne Collins does with the end of this series. Katniss went through so much during her games and the revolution, she deserved a quiet existence with the love of her life and her children. I am sorry, but this is the best ending out there. Maybe I just need to read more books, or maybe I am too biased.

I had so much fun creating these questions. Especially because I got to watch the movie in order to do so!
