Books to Read by the End of 2022: My December TBR

With only one month left in the year, it is that time when I start thinking about all the books I haven’t read yet. Each year I create a list of books I want to read within the year. You can find my 2021 version of this list here. And every year I utterly fail at it. This year was no different, and I will discuss that further in another post. But for now, let’s talk about the books on my December TBR, that I have left to read in 2021.

As usual, I always get into a small reading slump after the fall season. Because it is my favorite time of year, I try to pack in as many good spooky books and horror novels as I can.

Then, when December rolls around, I get completely worn out and end up reading little to no books. It’s rough!

BUT! This year just feels different. I feel more motivated to do the things that I love. Maybe it is because I’m not working retail during the holidays this year. Dealing with customers during the holiday season drains every last bit of energy out of you, it is near impossible to do anything else.

But whatever the reason I have this motivation, I am going to roll with it. I have a couple holiday books on my TBR along with some anticipated reads that I have been putting off for way too long! I have already finished a few books I have been reading for a long time so I am ready to jump into new worlds!

My December TBR

1. Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

I bought the sequel to Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares by Rochel Cohn and David Levithan thinking it was the first. So now I need to read the first, and what better time than December?

This book follows Lily, who leaves a notebook in a bookstore full of dares and notes. When Dash finds it, a relationship is formed as they pass the notebook back and forth at different places in New York City.

This sounds like an adorable holiday romance story. I am in the mood for something light and fluffy, and I hope this is it!

2. The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

This is the book I bought first, simply because it looked festive. Didn’t realize it was a sequel LOL! And in my research, I have learned that there is a thrid book in this series! So much holiday romance fun!

This second book is set a year after the first. It was a very rough year for Lily. So when the holiday season comes around, Dash and Lily’s brother get together to bring some holiday spirit into Lily’s life.

3. Majesty by Katharine McGee

I read the first book in this series, American Royals by Katharine McGee a couple of months ago and absolutely loved it. The concept was so interesting to me, and the characters were easy to fall in love with.

This sequel, Majesty, continues the story from the first book, with Jefferson, Nina, Samantha, Beatrice, and Daphane struggling to live in the spotlight while also trying to be teenagers.

4. Beasts of Prey by Ayana Gray

The book I received from Literati this month was Beasts of Prey by Ayana Gray. I have been anticipating this book for a long time, so when I saw it as an option, I jumped at the chance!

Beasts of Prey is about a city where magic doesn’t exist anymore, but magical creatures do. Koffi works at a zoo for these magical creatures, making money for her family. However when the safety of her loved ones is threatened, she unleashes a power no one knew she had.

5. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

I have been meaning to read this book for YEARS! This is the month, I can feel it… maybe! I also always crave a good, emmerisive fantasy novel during the cold months of winter. Fantasy books are perfect for snuggling up with a warm cup of tea and my dogs! I also think the Netflix series will make a good winter show, so I need to read the book before I watch it.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is a heist novel, as most people know by now. It has a really interesting cast of characters, and I can’t wait to see what all the hype is about!

6. A Lesson in Vengence by Victoria Lee

Another genre I love to read during the colder months of the year is dark academia. I just want to bustle through a snowy courtyard on the way to class, scarf blowing in the wind and a cup of warm coffee gripped in my hands.

A Lesson in Vengence by Victoria Lee mixes a college campus with magic in an epic tale of fantasy, drama, and adventure. This book is one of my five-star predicitions, and I am sure it will live up to my expectations.

I have so many exciting books on my December TBR, I can’t wait to dive into them and lose myself in the fictional worlds.

I seem to gravitate to the dark and fantastical genres during this time of year, so I made an effort to include some fluffy romance on my TBR this month. Seems like every Christmas movie and book has some form of romance in it, I might as well embrace it. Especially with all the Hallmark Christmas movies I watch during winter.

What books do you have on your December TBR? Let me know in the comments below!

Love, Jackie
