I do not understand how it is already the end of the year? How in the world did that happen? I would say that I am mentally still in March bit I feel as though I have graduated to May. Ever since I started work again, I feel as though time has resumed itself and started chugging forward again.
But we are not in May… we are at the end of OCTOBER! That means we literally have 2 months until the end of the year. I know we all say this each year, but I can’t believe a year has already gone by. But that really proves that time is relative, right? We look forward and a year is so long, but we look back and it is only a blip.
Anyway, I did this exact same post last year, which you can see here. I actually only have 17 books that I need to finish before the end of the year to reach my Goodreads goal, but just like last year, saying 20 is so much more aesthetic than 17. That means I have to read 8.5 books a month in order to finish… graphic novels here I come!
1. When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole
As I have been getting more and more into the horror genre, I have been learning of new books and new authors. This is a horrific take on gentrification, and I am so excited to dive in. i just got my copy of the audiobook from my local library so I will be reading it soon.
2. Final Girls by Riley Sager
I mentioned this one in my Horror TBR post, but I am buddy reading this with Reagan and Chanelle, both of which have finished the book. I am very behind, but I started it and from what I have read, I am enjoying it.
3. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
This is one book on my TBR that I am most excited to read. I have heard how dark and spooky this book is, and I am thrilled to start reading it. I have heard nothing but good things.
4. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
The prequel to this series, my favorite series, came out this year and I have yet to read it. I wanted to reread the trilogy first, and then I got distracted by a bunch of other books. But anyway, I am on Catching Fire right now in the reread.
5. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
Of course, after I finish reading Catching Fire I have to read the third book.
6. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
And to round it out, I must also read the one book I am doing this entire reread for, the brand new prequel about Snow!
7. Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine
I received a copy of the book a while ago for a book club I was in and I never got a chance to read it. I really want to through, because everything about it sounds amazing and bookish and fantastical.
8. The Diviners by Libba Bray
Speaking of the fantastical, this book has been on my TBR forever. Ever since I was a little girl and I read and adored the Gemma Doyle series. I am also told that this book is incredibly atmospheric, and I am definitely in the mood for that right now, especially with the wind raging outside. I feel like I am in an atmosphere.
9. Paper Girls by Brian K. Vaughan, Cliff Chiang, and Matthew Wilson
Hey, I got to add a graphic novel in there, because I only have two months to read all of these books. Plus, I have heard some good things about this graphic series, so I am looking forward to seeing what it is about.
10. Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko
I heard about this book during YALLWEST this year, and I was already adding it to my Goodreads TBR before the author even finished explaining it. And then, OwlCrate included an audiobook of the book in their September box. I was so thrilled, looks like I will be reading it soon.
11. Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonelle Clayton
Dancer and drama in the same book? I’m down! This book has been on my TBR for years, I really want to finally get to it.
12. Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
I have never read a story inspired by Arthurian legends, so when I learned about this book, I was 100% down. I recently acquired a copy of this book, and I am thinking of reading it in November.
13. Witchy by Ariel Slamet Ries
Another graphic novel that is on my list. I am actually planning on reading this within the next few days. I think it will be a perfect book to round out my October TBR, with all the magical vibes.
14. The Library Book by Susan Orlean
If you remember at the beginning of the year, I made a goal of reading more historical fictions. Well, as of yet, I have not read any, so I am going to make sure I read at least one before the end of the year. I am excited to read about the Los Angeles Public Library!
15. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
Another book that has been on my TBR forever. I don’t know a lot about this book other than it is a high fantasy, and I have been wanting to read more of those lately. I am excited to read this and finally understand what half the people on Book Twitter are talking about.
16. Witches of Ash and Ruin by E. Latimer
I received a copy of this book from a wonderful bookstagram friend, and I have been saving it specifically for the spooky season. I know it is going to be perfect for October, I love books with witchy vibes. I may have to read it in November, but that is still fall!
16. Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
Everyone and their mom have been talking about this book lately! This is a new fantasy story that just came out featuring a trans main character. I am so excited to read this book, I am only 3 weeks out from my hold coming in from my public library. Can’t wait to join the long list of fans of this book.
I am so excited to read each one of these books. They all look amazing, and I just really want to be in a place where I want to read until the book is done. I want to lose sleep over a book, I haven’t felt that in forever.
I know I know, in the post I wrote last year, I don’t think I finished one of the books on the list before 2020 started. But I really want to at least finish 17 books to finish my Goodreads challenge.
How far are you in your challenge? Let me know in the comments below!
