Here I am, adding another contemporary book to my favorites list. I definitely need to rethink what my favorite genres are because I have actually read more contemporary books this year than fantasy! Who am I? I am about the have a bookish identity crisis. But seriously, Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann is one of my favorite reads of the summer.
By the way, if you are interested in seeing what other contemporary books I have been loving, check out my post here! I talk about all the amazing books I have read lately by some wonderful authors.
Title: Let’s Talk About Love
Author: Claire Kann
Publisher: Swoon Reads
Published Date: January 23, 2018
Genre: Contemporary, Romance
Rating: 5/5 Stars
To start this off, I adored this book. I was completely hooked from the very first page. I don’t know if I am nostalgic, but I love reading about characters in college. I would give anything to go back to college right now, so it is so nice to escape into a story like this, if only for a little while. Alice and Takumi developed such a beautiful relationship throughout this story, it was lovely to read.
The characterization in this novel was incredibly thought out and complete. With contemporary, I need a good cast of characters. There isn’t any world building or expansive plot to hold a book, a lot of it lies on the characters. Luckily, Claire Kann created loveable and flawed characters that were so easy to relate to. The characters knew who they were, and they fit together without changing for each other.
And of course, I loved the setting of the book, a lot of it being in a library. Book lovers write the best books because we write for each other. So both the characters working in a library was just… perfection. I loved this.
Oh, and I will say one thing, I hate Feenie. The whole time I was just hoping that Feenie would get some sort of consequence for her poor treatment of Alice. But alas, we don’t always get what we want.
Still adored this book, and I can’t wait to read more from Clare Kann.
Alice and Takumi will forever sit on my list of favorite fictional couples. I love a couple that doesn’t instantly work with no issues, and these two were definitely flawed, but wonderful all the same.
