There have been so many stories across so many mediums with the topic of fake identities and illegal businesses recently, and I have been living for it! It’s definitely the trend in publishing this year.

First of all, this cover is absolutely stunning. This illustration style is one of my favorites for book covers! Anyway, aside from the cover, this book also sounds super intriguing. Hell Followed with Us by Andrew Joseph White is about a trans boy named Benji, who is running away from the cult he grew up in. Not only that, but Benji has also been infected with a bioweapon and the cult will do anything to get him, and the weaponized disease, back. Benji teams up with a group of other teenagers as they escape monsters and try to stop the bioweapons from mutating and ending humanity.

This book seems to be full of so many twists and turns, I can’t wait to meet Benji and the other characters.

You can never go wrong with a historical fiction/thriller which is why I am so excited to be talking about Last Call at the Nightingale by Katharine Schellman. This book is set in New York in the 1920s, where Vivian lives two lives. She spends her days sewing dresses and her nights at the Nightingale, an underground club with a lot of dancing and illegal liquor. She can lose herself in the crowd at the Nightingale, and she loves it. That is until she discovers a dead body behind the club, and she gets wrapped into a world where she doesn’t belong.

Based on all of these June 2022 book releases, I think this summer is going to be the summer of mystery and thriller. There are so many exciting options on this list!

When four strangers sat at a table in the Boston Public Library, they were planning on getting their work done, and going home. However, in the middle of their work session, a woman’s scream splits through the room, causing panic and fear. As the police try to keep people calm and figure out what happened, these four strangers get to talking. Turns out that one of them is a murderer.

I am all for books set in libraries and other bookish settings. there is something so calming and euphoric about it. So this book sounds right up my street. I feel like The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill is going to have major cozy mystery vibes, which I am here for!

Along with the beautiful cover, A Botanist’s Guide to Parties and Poisons by Kate Khavari comes with the exciting tale of Saffron Everleigh, who has just witnessed a murder by poison at the dinner party of one of her professors. With her mentor as the main suspect, Saffron joins forces with Alexander Ashton to clear his name.

I have been really interested in reading books set in the 1920s, so this one has me really excited! I am in the mood for escapism, and this seems perfect for that!

This Wicked Fate by Kalynn Bayron is the highly anticipated sequel to This Poison Heart, one of the most popular young adult fantasies from last year. In this story, Briseis is on a mission to save her mother, and to do that she must find the last fragment of the deadly Absyrtus Heart. However, Briseis isn’t the only one looking for it.

I still need to read the first book in this duology before I get to this one, but I am excited to hear everyone’s thoughts on this anticipated sequel.

The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager

One of my favorite thriller authors, Riley Sager, is back with another book, The House Across the Lake. This book is about Casey, a former actress who has moved to a lake house to avoid the press. She spends a lot of her time watching the couple across the lake, even making friends with one of them, Katharine. When Katharine suddenly goes missing, Casey becomes obsessed with figuring out what happened.

Although this sounds like that classic, “the woman in the house across the street in the window on the train” type story, I am still very excited. I have always had a good time reading Riley Sager’s books, so this should be a great summer read.

The Ballad of Perilous Graves by Alex Jennings is set in New Orleans, where music is magic. When nine songs of power escape, which are the lifeblood of the city, Perry and Brendy must find them to save New Orleans. However, there might be even more darkness that will destroy everything they know and love.

This story sounds incredibly unique, I am so excited to read it! Although I have not read either book, the summary reminds me of This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab. Something about music and magic!

Juniper & Thorn by Ava Reid

Juniper & Thorn by Ava Reid is another fantasy I can’t wait to get my hands on. In this story, Marlinchen and her sisters are some of the last witches in the city and are very much treated that way. They spend their days treating people’s ailments and being seen as a spectacle more than people. However, at night the sisters escape into the city, where Marlinchen has met a ballet dancer that has captured her heart. However, the more Marlinchen goes out, the more danger she comes in contact with, from both her father and an evil force lurking in the shadows.

In This Vicious Grace by Emily Thiede, Alessa must find a partner before a heard of demons come and devour everything in their path. On top of this, a priest has convinced people that Alessa needs to die in order to save the island, and even her own soldiers are trying to kill her. To protect herself, Alessa hires Dante as her personal bodyguard. However, Dante might have some dark secrets that will be revealed.

There are so many positive early reviews of this book, it seems like a fantastic story to escape into this summer. I’ll be honest, from reading the summary of this book, I don’t have the best idea of what this book will be about, but I’m excited to learn more about the story!

As much as summer feels like the perfect time to read light fluffy romance novels, there are so many intriguing fantasy, thriller, and mystery books on this list of June 2022 book releases! I am so excited to lose myself in a creepy mystery while relaxing on the beach this summer!

What is on your TBR list for June? Let me know in the comments below! Are you excited about any of the books being released this month?
