Throughout the first half of 2022, I have been struggling with reading. I have a hard time quieting my thoughts and focusing on a story. Luckily, this past month I started reading a book, Queen of the Conquered by Kacen Callender, which has gripped me, and made me love reading again. So I am super excited to be talking about the July 2022 book releases I am most excited for!
Only one more month until it is… semi-reasonable… to be excited about fall! I plan to read all my fun, fluffy, and fast reads this month in preparation for all the dark and immersive fantasies I will be reading starting in August. I can’t be the only one who starts celebrating fall in August right? It’s like pre-fall!
However, until then, I will be trying to make the most of the summer, and ignoring the intense heat we have been experiencing by escaping into a good book.
Anyway, this list of July 2022 book releases is packed with so many exciting stories! Check them out!

Although I don’t read a lot of science fiction, I am super excited about Upgrade by Blake Crouch, author of the popular book Dark Matter. This book is about Logan Ramsay, who was targeted for a brain upgrade, which makes him think faster and remember things more clearly. The reason behind this upgrade is a part of a bigger plan that could change the course of the world, but not in a positive way. So, with the help of this upgraded brain, Logan works to stop something that has been set in motion for decades.
The premise of this book is giving me Limitless vibes. It sounds like a story that would be really easy to lose yourself in during these hot summer months.

The author of the popular mystery, The Woman in Cabin 10, is back with another gripping tale, The It Girl. This book is about April, who is the “it girl” at Oxford. She attracts everyone including Hannah and their close-knit group of friends. That is until the second semester when April is found dead. Decades later, Hannah is living her life and the convicted killer of April is found dead in prison. She is ready to move on from the whole ordeal. However, someone comes knocking on her door with new evidence that points to a different killer.
This sounds like a classic mystery novel full of so many twists and turns you won’t know what is coming next. It will definitely be a fun read this year!

I don’t tend toward romance books, but if there is one trope that I will always fall for, it is the main characters who are readers, bookstore owners, or both. Lucky for me, Booked on a Feeling by Jayci Lee has just that.
In this story, Lizzy is a lawyer from L.A. who is experiencing burnout. To remedy that, she decides to take a break and spend some time in a small town in California, where her childhood friend Jack lives. Together, they spend time redoing the local bookstore. With all this time together, Jack’s decade-long crush on Lizzy starts to come back, but he must do everything in his power not to ruin their friendship.

She enjoys doing this, however, her position is at risk from Prince Cyrus, who plans of taking her authority away once he is crowned. While performing her duties one day, she accidentally awakens an old curse that could save or destroy the kingdom.
This book seems to take a lot from common fairytale tropes, which I love. There is something so relaxing and nostalgic about fairytales, so I am always down to read a good one!

This adult fantasy romance sounds exciting, fast-paced, and unique. Taking classic royalty tropes and adding a queer spin on them is one of my favorite things. This is sure to be a favorite from the July 2022 book releases.
