One late night… early morning… I was watching Booktube when I should have been sleeping. The usual. Anyway, I saw a tag called The Most Intimidating Books on my TBR tag on PeruseProject’s account. There are a lot of books that intimidate me. It could be the length, the authors, or the reviews, but I am scared to read them.
Now, I am far too lazy to actually answer the questions to that tag, but I thought it would be interesting to compile a list of books that I have honestly been avoiding. I know it is going to be a… long list. So this post will only include a couple because I don’t want it to be obnoxiously long.
Anyways, let’s expose me, shall we?
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
I have had this book on my TBR for a very long time. I put it on my list at the very beginning of my reading career because it was supposed to be perfect for fans of The Hunger Games, the book that sparked my love of reading. However, after a popular YA book is out for such a long time, it loses a little bit of its luster. It isn’t as shiny and new. You also start to see those “unpopular opinions” of people hating the book.
The Selection by Kiera Cass
This is another one of those books that have been out for such a long time, I have started to see the rust underneath the pretty shiny paint. A lot of mixed things on this book. I also think the book was written for a younger audience. And like duh, I am a 20 something year old who reads YA, they are all written for a younger audience. But what I mean is, the writing might be simplified for young young adults, which I tend not to enjoy. But I still want to read it… you know?
Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
I think you can imagine why I don’t want to read this one, The Hunger Games being my absolute favorite series. It turned me into the book blogger that I am today. So hearing all the bad reviews of this one… I am scared. There wasn’t even a period where I only saw good reviews, they have been pretty negative since it’s release. So, yeah, we will see when I get to this one.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
This is another book I have had on my TBR forever. It was one of the first books I bought when I started my book blog. It was super popular, and I saw it all over bookstagram. I often feel prey to buying every book I saw on Instagram. And for years this book sat on my shelf because I started to realize that I had preferences outside of just YA. I liked fantasy and adventure novels more than contemporary ones. But, I have so many friends who love this book, and I have started to like contemporary books as well, as you can see here, so I am ready to give this book a go.
Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
This book is actually on my list of 20 books I want to read in 2020… and I haven’t started it yet… I should probably get on that. You can probably guess why. This beast is 900 pages! What the heck, that is a beast of a book. I actually tried reading it in April, when we all went into quarantine. I thought it would be a good time, but my head wasn’t in the right place. So now I will try to read it with a full work schedule… sounds perfect.
I mean it, I really want to read all of these books on this list, but there are reasons I have been putting them off! I am planning to at least read one of them this year, and hopefully next year I can continue making my way through the list.
I can’t be the only one who has a list of books like this? Comment down below and let me know what books you want to read… but also don’t!
I feel that! I guess I can only hope to like the book haha!
