I know I will probably say this 5 more times, but I can’t believe we have less than a week until October is over. Last October, I completed the Halloween Creatures 2.0 Book Tag created by Anthony from Keep Reading Forward. I thought it would be fun to answer the questions again, and then look back at my older post and see if any of the answers match up. I don’t know, it sounds fun!
There are a lot of fun creatures in this tag, and they are definitely putting me in the mood for Halloween!
Witch: A Magical Character or Book
Sarai and her family all have different forms of magic, that make them unique and wonderful characters. However, for this prompt, I am referring to the magic Lazlo Strange held. He created entire worlds with his dreams, and he was vital to the Unseen City of Weep. I should say I am surprised that I haven’t read the sequel of this book yet, but I’m not. Come on, this is me we are talking about.
Werewolf: The Perfect Book to Read at Night.
If you mean, the perfect book to read at night to be properly spooked! I am still only halfway done with this book, so I can’t make a full assessment of the story, but I have been loving my nights spent, with my lights off, listening to the audiobook.
Frankenstein: A Book that Truly Shocked You.
I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this book, but I was taken on a wild ride. This was one of the first psychological thrillers I have ever read, and I was hooked. I wrote a review of this book, you can read it here.
The Devil: A Dark, Evil Character.
Trust me, I understand the allure of The Darkling. I am not here to say that is wrong, because I definitely felt that in the first book of the Grisha trilogy. However, he was definitely not a good guy. He is dark and evil!
Grim Reaper: A Character that Should Never Have Died.
Spoiler Alert: for Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
Listen, I know people die, especially during a war. Finnick, alright, he was in the line of fire, I get it. But Prim?! That death was so devastating, especially when Katniss says her full name, Primrose. I don’t know why, but that gets me every time.
Zombie: A Book that Made You “Hungry” for More.
This story is so complex and interesting, I am dying to continue on with the rest of the series. I am begging my library to get the second and third books. Hearing other’s reactions to the third book makes me all the more hungry for this series!
Gargoyle: A Character that You Would Protect at All Cost.
Of course, I am going to pick The Tea Dragon Society! I am not even going to pick one of the characters in this graphic novel, I want to protect each and every one of them. I love them with my whole heart, I want to save them from all pain, struggles, and stress of life.
Vampire: A Book that Sucked the Life Out of You.
I could feel this book slowly pulling me into a reading slump as I was reading it. I was so excited about this story because I love serial killer fiction, but all of that excitement was pulled out of me slowly as I read on.
Ghost: A Book that Still Haunts You.
I am taking this prompt literally, because this book is about a girl who can go between the living and the dead, and her best friend is an actual ghost. So, the ghost is haunting… you know?
Demon: A Book that Really Scared You.
I will never forget how scared and spooked I was after finishing this book in the middle of the night. I will never do that again. Honestly, I don’t remember a lot about this book other than the fact that I was SCARED!
Skeleton: A Character You Have a Bone to Pick With.
Hey, Aiden, what’s good? I just want to talk! I have actually only read the first book in this series, so I can’t make a full judgment of this character. It also felt like this character was going in a different direction by the end of the book, but I didn’t really like the artificial intelligence in the first book.
Mummy: A Book You Would Preserve Throughout Time.
I think this novella is going to be a favorite of mine for a long time to come. It is short and to the point. I loved the heart that each of the characters brought to the story, and I want more people to read this book. I need to read the rest of this series!
Creepy Doll: A Cover too Scary to Look At.
Look, I am absolutely terrified of snakes, okay. Yes, they are danger noodles, super cute, but if I see one in real life, which has only happened like twice, I will freak out. I was even spooked by the promise of a snake when I saw a hole in the ground. Even though that could have just been a rodent or something. Anyway, I hate snakes, so I am having a lot of fun this year with the infamous YA Snake that is donning every cover out there.

Okay, it is time to look at my answers from last year and compare it! You can click here to see the post, or just follow along down below.
Witch: Harry Potter -> Strange the Dreamer (I almost put Harry Potter!)
Werewolf: All books (lol) -> Sawkill Girls (Lol, I still do read mostly at night)
Frankenstein: Progeny -> The Forgotten Ones (I almost put Progeny!)
The Devil: Shadow and Bone -> Shadow and Bone (Wow! I haven’t changed)
Grim Reaper: Finnick -> Prim (I stay on brand, that’s all I can say)
Zombie: Progeny -> Nevernight (I was really into Progeny wasn’t I?)
Gargoyle: Peeta -> All Characters from The Tea Dragon Society (Ah, sweet baby Peeta)
Vampire: Anna Karenina -> Stalking Jack the Ripper (I stand by my first answer still)
Ghost: The Hunger Games -> City of Ghosts (I went literal, but THG still haunts me!)
Demon: Asylum -> Asylum (Well, it WAS a terrifying book!)
Skeleton: Gale Hawthorn -> Aidan (oops, I’m still #teamPeeta)
Mummy: All the Light We Cannot See -> Every Heart a Doorway (both are beautiful)
Creepy Doll: Bad Girls Don’t Die -> The Ninth House (I’m more scared of snakes)
Okay, a lot of those answers changed! Of course, I am still torn up over the deaths in The Hunger Games series! I feel like the main reason changes happened was simply the books I read this year are more salient in my mind. Also, I am proud of the more unique answers this year. I didn’t repeat any answer! I call that growth.
Anyways, that was a lot of fun! Maybe I will do this again next year! It can be a Halloween tradition.
