Hallmark Christmas Movies Based on Books

If you couldn’t tell from me creating an entire book tag based on Hallmark (The Hallmark Christmas Movies Book Tag), I am obsessed with Hallmark. During the holidays season, I have it constantly playing as my background noise. One of the reasons I love it so much is because they remind me so much of books. Probably because a lot of them are! This is why today I want to talk about some Hallmark Christmas movies based on books.

Book-to-movie adaptations are so popular. Ever since the boom of the early 2000s, when it felt like every book was being made into a movie or a TV series, that trend has just continued to grow.

I’m not mad about it at all. One of my favorite feelings in the world is the excitement I feel when I just finish a really good book only to find out there is a movie I can watch right away. Comparing two versions of the same story is always fun.

Hallmark makes a lot of Christmas movies, and they get a bunch of their inspiration from books. I wish these books got more recognition, with how popular the films are, so I wanted to highlight some of them on my blog.

Also, I think it would be a lot of fun to read these books! I am not much of a romance reader, but getting to see how well Hallmark adapts books to movies would be really interesting. I wonder how similar they are.

1. Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe by Melissa De La Cruz

To be honest, I have never heard of this book and the reviews of it are… not good. A lot of 1 and 2-star ratings. But nevertheless, it is a super popular Hallmark Christmas movie!

This book is a gender-swapped retelling of Pride and Prejudice in the modern world. Luke and Darcy meet at a Christmas party and have a one-night stand. But what if it is more than that?

2. A Bramble House Christmas by C.J. Carmichael

This book certainly has some better reviews on Goodreads than the last book I talked about. It is also one of my favorite Hallmark movies I have watched.

This book is about Finn, who travels home after his father’s death when he finds out all his inheritance has been left to a nurse. But what he comes home to is not what he was expecting.

3. The Christmas Train by David

This book is about a journalist who takes a train home during the holiday season only to find that there might be more goodness in people than he originally thought.

This is a well-loved Hallmark movie with a lot of heart and passion. And of course, a lot of romance!

4. A Family Under the Christmas Tree by

This story follows David, who has just started taking care of his nephew after his brother passed away. When his nephew runs away one day, he finds him in a park playing with a puppy. That puppy is being cared for by Sophie. Through this chance meeting, David and Sophie developed a bond they didn’t know they needed.

This is a sweet romance, like many other Hallmark Christmas movies. I have never seen this movie, but I can already tell you exactly what happens in it!

5. A December Bride by

This novella is the fake dating trope, but make it Christmas. When Layla and Seth begin fake dating, they have a plan. They will stay together long enough for Layla to get her dream job, and then they will stage a fake breakup. This is all great until they fall in love with each other.

I don’t know how this book is, but I always enjoy it when this movie comes on during the holiday season. Who doesn’t like some fake dating? I have watched it every year since it’s release in 2017.

I think it would be fun to read these books before watching these Hallmark Christmas movies based on books. I always end up watching the movie first because of how many Hallmark movies I watch every year!

To be honest, I am not the biggest fan of romance books in general. As much as I love watching these movies, I have never gotten into reading these types of books. But I also said I wasn’t a contemporary reader and here I am, with some of my favorite books of the year being from the contemporary genre! Maybe I have changed!

Have you ever read a book that was turned into a Hallmark Christmas movie? Let me know in the comments below!
