Cozy Autumn Book Tag

I can’t believe October is already halfway done! 15 days have gone by in a flash, and I can feel my favorite month of the year slipping away as I write this post. In order to hang on to whatever fall I have left, I am completing the Cozy Autumn Book Tag.

I completed this tag on my blog last year, which you can see here. I have been searching high and low for new autumnal book tags to complete because I want something new, and I have so far been unsuccessful. Does anyone know where I can find any?

Anyway, book tags have been such a great way for me to keep my creative flow going each week during Blogtober. With fun prompts and adorable themes, I think book tags are a fantastic way to give mini-book recommendations based on specific vibes. I think 50% of my Goodreads TBR shelf is full because of book tags.

1. What book always reminds you of Autumn?

Book cover of The Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

I have said it once, and I will say it 1,000 times, dark academia gives me the most autumnal vibes out of any genre or subgenre. I can just imagine myself bustling through a college campus as the wind blows my scarf in a trail behind me, cowering over the books and coffee I’m holding. That could be me! So of course, I had to choose The Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo for this prompt. One of my favorites, and super dark and atmospheric, perfect for this month.

2. What is your favorite Autumnal book cover?

I wrote a whole post about this, which you can read here. But currently, I think my favorite autumnal book cover is The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling. This isn’t a book I would normally pick up, but I am obsessed with the cover. I want to read it purely because of how cute and Halloween-themed it is. This book is giving me bewitched vibes, and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy. Hopefully, it lives up to the hype.

3. What is your favorite Autumnal drink?

My favorite autumnal drink will always be an iced pumpkin spice latté. I will order this from any coffee shop I see during the months of August, September, October, and November. Yes, I start that early, it is my favorite drink… maybe of all time. Although the pumpkin cold foam cold brew from Starbucks is coming in a strong second for me this year, it is quite tasty.

4. Do you prefer to read late at night or early in the morning?

I am definitely a late owl, so that is when I get most of my reading done. However, recently I attempted to wake up 30 minutes before I needed to in order to read a little before I got to work, and I was loving it. It made me feel so much more alive and productive in the morning. I haven’t done this for a while now, but maybe I’ll get back to it.

5. Halloween is coming, what is a favorite spooky book?

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager book cover

Last year I answered this question with Home Before Dark by Riley Sager. I am obviously very predictable as I am using the same exact author, just a different book, Lock Every Door. The premise of this book was one of the more interesting I have read in a long time. Plus, the plot twist at the end was so good and so unexpected but made complete sense to the story. The best sort of plot twist, if you will.

6. What is your ultimate comfort read?

Book cover of Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

My answer changed from last year, although not really. Last year I put my favorite book down, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Which is and will always be a comfort read for me. But Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor is right up there next to it. The characters, world-building, and magic all come together to make this an ultimate comfort read. And no, I have not read the sequel yet…

7. What is your favorite Autumnal reading snack?

At the moment, my favorite autumnal reading snack has to be pumpkin bread. I could probably eat a whole loaf of pumpkin bread in one sitting if I let myself. Some of the best come from Starbucks, but they sell box mixes at grocery stores that are also very delicious and easy to make.

8. What is your favorite Autumnal candle?

You can see the candle pictured above, my favorite autumnal candle this year is The Perfect Autumn from Bath & Body Works. I always head to BBW for my autumnal candle needs, but this one is superior. With notes of cranberry, pumpkin, apple, and clove, it is to die for. It is a delicious mix of fruity and spicy, perfect for the autumn season. The perfect autumn candle!

9. When you’re not reading, what is your favorite autumnal activity?

Definitely watching Scary movies! Any chance I can grab two hours of time, I will sit down, scroll randomly through Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime, and find a scary movie I have never even heard of and play it. Some of the best movies are found this way.

10. What is on your Autumn reading list?

So many… here are a few.

I am trying to fit all the spooky, dark, and atmospheric books on my TBR into this month. I am obviously not going to finish. But here are a few of my priorities on my list. You can see my full October TBR here.

I think the reason I love the Cozy Autumn Book Tag so much is that not all of the questions are about books. That may seem counterproductive as a book blogger, but I find it fun to answer questions about my other autumnal favorites, like drinks, foods, and activities. Gives my little reader brain a break.

Let me know in the comments below what your favorite autumnal snack is! Or your favorite autumnal drink!

Love, Jackie
