I have a different type of Blogoween post for today… a review of a spooky book! I know, I forgot to post yesterday… But I will make it up, I promise. I am going to post one tonight and two tomorrow. Hopefully, I can catch up!

Summary

Cassidy Blake is your average middle school student. Except for one thing… her best friend is a ghost. Cassidy’s parents are also ghost-hunters, so when they get the opportunity to film a TV show in Edinburgh, Scotland, Cassidy goes along. Here she discovers a lot about her ability and comes face-to-face with the Red Raven.

Review

Well, this was just what I needed. I have been trying to find small bits of fall joy in my life and this was one of them. It was a perfect book to read at this time of year. I am always down for a classic ghost story and I have not read one in forever! This was my first Schwab book and I can see what all the rave is about. The descriptions were incredible and I could clearly picture what the veil looked like and how Edinburgh felt.

All of the characters were so relatable and well developed. I loved the relationship between Cassidy and her best friend/ghost, Jacob. The villain, the Red Raven, actually gave me the chills. As a said in my “Creepy Crawlies” post, I would not want to come in contact with her. No Thanks.

The ending of this book sets up so nicely for a sequel and I can’t wait to see where these characters go next. I really hope Cassidy and Lara, a girl from Edinburgh who can also see the veil, stay friends. I loved Lara so much and would love to hear more from her. I also can’t wait to hear more about Jacob’s past.

Overall, I loved this book. The writing was clear and easy to follow and the story was creepy and cozy. It is perfect for a middle-grade reader who loves ghost stories.
