April 2022 Book Releases

March is almost over, which means it is time to start looking ahead to all the exciting books that are coming out next month. The list of April 2022 book releases is jam-packed with so many amazing stories, I am so excited to talk about them.

It’s hard to believe that in a couple of months it is going to be summer. I feel like yesterday was Halloween, and all of a sudden the weather is warmer and the days are longer. But that also means it is the perfect weather to head outside with a good book and an iced coffee and get to reading. One of my absolute favorite activities is reading outside, which is impossible during the fall and winter months. So I am thrilled to start doing that again!

We could all use some time in the sun! Don’t forget, we are like plants. We need the sun to thrive, so go get that vitamin D!

But let’s get through April before we start getting excited for the summer months. There are so many exciting April book releases coming!

This list of April new releases is going to include only the ones I am particularly excited for, not all of them. Check out this list from Booklist Queen with a ton of upcoming releases for next month! Also, check out this list from The Bibliophile!

For years, museums have displayed stolen artifacts stolen through colonization. So, when Will Chen, a student at Harvard, is given a job offer that involves stealing some of these back, he can’t say no. He puts together the best heist team he can think of, because the cost of succeeding is high, 50 million dollars. But the cost of losing is even higher.

Oh, I am so excited about this book. This is the kind of story that always immediately hooks me, I know it is going to be a struggle putting this book down. I can’t wait to jump into this heist novel!

There has been a huge influx of books, tv shows, movies, and documentaries about con artists, so it is no surprise that there is so much hype surrounding the release of Cover Story by Susan Rigetti. When Lora starts an internship at the magazine, Elle, she is quickly taken under the wing of the exciting and energetic contributing editor, Cat. Lora soon gets wrapped into Cat’s luxurious life, where she discovers there might be a darker side to her party lifestyle.

As I am currently watching Inventing Anna on Netflix right now, and I recently watched The Tinder Swinder, I know this book is going to hold my attention. And that is pretty rare right now! Plus, look at this cover! So poppy, I love it!

One of my favorite tropes in books is the creepy weird hotel. And with Hotel Magnifique being related to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern I knew I had to add it to my TBR! This book is about Jani, who is just trying to survive and take care of her younger sister, Zosa. One day, the Hotel Magnifique comes to town. It is full of splendor and wonder, and the only way for Jani and Zosa to experience it is by getting jobs there. However, they soon realize that the hotel has more dark secrets than they expected, and there is no way out of the contract they signed.

Rhea and Lexos have spent their whole lives helping their father rule by controlling the weather, the stars, and the tides. However, in their land, a movement for independence is gaining traction, which could weaken their rule, and lead to other nations taking over.

This is a new book from Rory Power, the author of Wilder Girls, one of my favorite reads from a couple of years ago. I am so excited to dive into this book, it feels very different from the author’s other works! And who doesn’t love political dramatic fantasies? I certainly do!

No matter how many versions and how many variations, I will always love books based on Romeo and Juliet. I don’t even like the source material that much, but it is one of my favorite types of stories, and there have been a lot of them lately. Even better, this one includes magic and mythology! I am living!

This book is about Hunter, who is incredible with a bow and who, despite wanting to run away, stays for his family. There is also Luna, whose fear for the future is only disrupted by the new boy at her high school and a mysterious crack appearing in her town. Together they must deal with family, mystery, and the magic that is plaguing their town.

This historical fiction is based on very true and very disturbing history. Take my Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez is about Civil, a new nurse in Montgomery Alabama. She is ready to start her job and help people in her community, but what she faces is the forced sterilization of young black women. Now she is trying to explain what happened to her daughter in hopes of avoiding repeated history.

This is such an important story to tell, I will definitely be making this a priority for the coming season.

Another adult magical realism to add to my ever-growing list! In A Tiny Upward Shove, Marina wakes up one day to find she is dead. But life has not ended there. She finds she has become an aswang, something from the legends her grandmother used to tell her. With this comes the ability to access and analyze people’s memories.

This book feels very unique, I can’t wait to dive into this story and learn about Marina and being an aswang.

I am the Ghost in Your House by Mar Romasco-Moore is about a girl named Pie, who is invisible… literally. She blends in with the background, and she makes her way through life without any connections to anyone except her mother. When her mother decides to allow Pie to choose the next city they pass through, Pie chooses the city where she fell in love. Pie plans on finding this girl and revealing herself to her.

This book sounds so unique, and unlike anything I have ever read before. I can tell it is going to be extra creepy and macabre, which is right up my alley.

Sofi is planning on taking her father’s place as a Musik, but at her audition, a strange girl comes and performs the perfect audition despite having never performed before. Fantasy, romance, and music? I am in! Bonus, Sofi and the Bone Song by Adrienne Tooley is going to be a standalone novel, so no waiting for the subsequent books!
