I have been reading a couple horror books this month in an attempt to get in the spooky spirit. Well, like anything a book worm does, the more I learn about a genre, the more books I add to my TBR. And my TBR is already ridiculously long! I will celebrate the day I get my TBR under 100 books. I won’t even tell you what the number is… Maybe someday I will make a post about it, but for now, that number remains a not-so-secret secret (just look at my Goodreads page).
I have been struggling recently to focus on a book. With work picking up because of the holidays, and my mental health not doing the best, I haven’t been reading nearly as much as I want to be. But, one thing I have been able to do is to read audiobooks, and the best genre to read with audiobooks is horror.
The couple I have read this season so far has been wonderful 4-star reads! Both The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James and Home Before Dark by Riley Sager were great ways to step into the genre, and now I am ready for even more horror!
Final Girls by Riley Sager
Having enjoyed Home Before Dark so much by Riley Sager, I was definitely interested in reading more from this author. This is one of this author’s more popular books, and I am interested to see if I enjoy it as much as I did Home Before Dark. I am buddy reading this book with Reagan and Chanelle, so no matter what it is going to be fun!
Horrid by Katrina Leno
One thing I am interested in reading is a YA horror novel. I am so interested in reading Horrid by Katrina Leno. I hadn’t even heard of this book until it showed up on my doorstep in the October OwlCrate box. Now, I am definitely interested in seeing what this book is about, especially with all the good reviews I have been seeing.
When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole
Seeing that this story is a horror about the gentrification of a New York City neighborhood so interesting! There are so many fantastic reviews of this book, and I have seen how twisted and dark this story is said to be. Technically this is a psychological thriller but… you know, thriller, horror, what’s the difference?
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
This is one of my top TBR books! I asked on twitter for some really dark and spooky reads, and this was immediately recommended to me! I have heard nothing but good things about this book, and I am absolutely stoked to read it!
I can say I am planning on reading all these books before the fall season ends… but I know that isn’t going to happen. But I am certainly going to try. I am definitely going to read Final Girls with my buddy read, and then Mexican Gothic would be next on my list.
Are you planning on ready any horror or spooky books this month? Let me know in the comments below. My TBR is definitely not long enough.
