In my opinion, fall is one of the best times to listen to audiobooks. Actually, audiobooks are good all year long, but anyway. The more audiobooks I read, the more I love them. They have helped me so much, allowing me to read when my brain won’t let me focus on the words on the page.
This time of year, I love to turn on an audiobook, light a candle, and listen while coloring, crocheting, or some other mindless activity. Recently, I have been listening to a spooky audiobook. So, I turn off all my lights, curl up in my blanket with a warm cup of tea, and listen to the book by the light of my Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin candle from Bath and Body Works. It gets… CREEPY! I definitely feel all the autumnal vibes!
Today, I am bringing you a list of my favorite audiobooks to listen to in fall that will give you all the warm and cozy… or dark… vibes! These are perfect for your fall-time reading when the rain is coming down! This is me trying to manifest rain. Come on!

1. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
Narration by Steve West
This audiobook was remarkable. The narrator perfectly portrays the magic of this book in every way. As I listened to this book, I could clearly imagine the Lost City of Weep, both how it was in the present time, and how Lazlo imagined it. The narrator easily grasped the personality of each character and portrayed them effectively and authentically. I listened to the audiobook during a reread, and it made me fall in love with the story even more. Laini created a magical world full of magical characters, and this audiobook brought that to life.
2. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
Narration by Therese Plummer
I had no idea what to expect when I hit play on this audiobook almost one year ago, but I was so glad I did. This book is dark, twisted, and full of murder. The magical system is like no other and the characters are sparks of life. This book had a complicated fantasy world, and I felt that the audiobook helped build that for me in my mind. Also, with the style of narration, I felt like it was easier to incorporate the footnotes into the story than I imagine it would be reading the physical book.
3. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Narration by Alma Cuervo, Julia Whelan, and Robin Miles
We all know how beloved this book is in the book internet community. Honestly, this story deserves all the hype it gets. I was completely wrapped in Evelyn’s story and the audiobook dragged me along on the rollercoaster of her life. The cast of narrators made the story dynamic, and each of the narrators brought heart to the characters. This story was character-driven, so having a full cast boosted the audiobook up on my list of favorites.
4. City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab
Narration by Reba Buhr
The way Victoria Schwab writes is masterful, and it translates beautifully into the audio format. City of Ghosts was my first step into Schwab territory, and I was not disappointed. This middle-grade ghost story was short, spooky, with a hint of fun. The narrator knew just what to do to make the most impact with creepy scenes! I was spooked! I listened to this audiobook while driving to school, and I almost missed my exit because I was so focused on what was happening to the main character, Cassidy Blake. 5. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
Narration by Jack Hawkins and Louise Brealey
Now, I proclaim to be a huge fan of thriller books, but in all honesty, I don’t actually read that many. I do watch a lot of thriller movies, but that’s not the point. However, I think audiobooks are going to bring thrillers back into my life. By far, the best reading experiences I have with thrillers are through audiobooks. There is something about suspense that is different in audiobooks, and this narrator knew exactly what they were doing. The plot twist was delivered spectacularly, and the creepy atmosphere was effortless.
Audiobooks are becoming one of my favorite ways to read books. I am currently listening to Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand, and soon, that one will be on my list of favorites as well. The narrator fully embodies each character, especially the creepy thingamabob that is haunting the island.
