The year is almost over! That means Santa is checking his list… not once but twice! Where do you think you will fall? I am honestly not sure, so I am going to let the Bookish Naughty or Nice Tag decide for me this year.
What I do know is that I did not read very many good books this year. It felt very dry this year in reading. I am going to post a year review later this month, so stay tuned for that, but don’t be too excited to find many favorites.
With this lack of good books, I have faced a lot of bookish burn-out this year as well. I haven’t been in the mood to read, take bookstagram photos, or spend time in the onlin book community.
Because of this, I am going to take a break from talking about actual books today to talk about my bookish sins!
This is a tag created by Jenniely, one of my favorite book bloggers. These are questions about any bookish discretion you may or may not have done! Only time will tell!
Here are the rules for the tag!
- Tag & link the person who tagged you
- Tag and link me/this post
- Tick/cross off the ones you’ve done
- Tag another 10 people!
It is time! The time to decide whether or not I will be getting any presents from the bookish Santa gods this year!
1. Received an ARC and not reviewed it
YES
I have had my fair shar of ARCs from bookish festivals that I never read. But if we are talking only books I requested, then yes, I have also recieved them and not reviewed them… oops!
2. Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley
NO
I have a feedback rating of 67% on Netgalley right now! Not the worst but not the best either.
3. Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)
NO
I usually only write anything on Goodreads if I have something to say. I save my full reviews for my blog and only do short, concis thoughts on Goodreads. So I have never had to use the classic line, “review to come.”
4. Folded down the page of a book
NO
I usd to do this when I was little, but I haven’t in years so I am not counting it. Although I don’t care if people do it. You do you! Whatever makes you happy with your books is fine by me!
Just don’t fold down the pages of my books!
5. Accidentally spilled on a book
YES
I actually spilled water all over the last physical book I was reading, Beach Read by Emily Henry. The back half of the book is all wrinkly. But I kind of like that feeling… is that weird? It was also a book I didn’t care too much about, so I wasn’t too upset.

6. DNF a book this year
YES
I don’t want to name the book because it was a really good book and I don’t want to give it a bad name. I just wasn’t in the place to read it, so I put it back on my bookself until next year.
7. Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it
YES
Absolutely! Look at this cover for Canique by Joanna Marsh!
It has to be the most beautiful cover of a book I have ever seen in my entire life. I also want to read the story becuase it is about dance, but I would have bought this book even if it was about football because I love the cover so much.
And I didn’t even know there was a sequel, and the book cover is just as beautiful! A dancer made of flowers.
8. Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)
YES
Always… I am always meant to be doing something else. But that is because we live in a world that doesn’t value free time and relaxation. But that is a whole other conversation.
9. Skim read a book
NO
I have tried. I really want to be a person that can skim read. But I end up feeling guilty and going back and reading it. The only time I skim read is when there are songs in books. I am sure the words are important to the story, but I can’t get myself to care.
10. Completely missed your Goodreads goal
YES
Every single year since I have started doing the Goodreads Reading Challenge, I have failed. One year I will read 50 books within the year.
11. Borrowed a book and not returned it to the library
NO
I haven’t done this yet. But I mostly get my library books digitally nowadays.
12. Broke a book buying ban
YES
Definitely. I havn’t put myself on one in a while because I haven’t needed to (not much desire to buy new books), but I used to and I would always break them.
13. Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about
YES
I still have reviews in the drafts of this blog that are sitting there half done. I don’t know why I keep the draft, it’s not like I am going to remember what I felt about the book. If I can’t remember what is happening in the book I am currently reading, how am I supposed to for the one I finished years ago.
14. Wrote in a book you were reading
YES
This year was the first time I did this and I loved it! I decided to annotate each book in The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. It is my favorite book series and I wanted to reread it anyway.
15. Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads
YES
I am saying yes to this even though it mainly applies to Storygraph. Ever since I started using two platforms to track my reading, I sometimes forget to add books to one, and that one is usually Storygraph.
If you want to be friends with me on Storygraph, my username is @bookish_coffee
Add me!
16. Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend
YES
I still have my cousins copy of Talking as Fast as I Can by Lauren Graham on my bookshelf that I have never given back… I wonder when I will get around to giving that back.
17. Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book
YES
Absolutely. I have never been a good sharer. Ever since I was a kid I was very posessive of my stuff. So yeah, I don’t like sharing my books… whoops!
18. Broke the spine of someone else’s book
NO
Never. That is the one thing I hate doing, it truely hurts my heart. My copy of Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy was used when I bought it and it is completely split into two books down the spine.
19. Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up making it more damaged
NO
Nah, I read all my hardcovers with the dust jacket on. It is too pretty for me to talke it away.
20. Sat on a book accidentally
YES
Oh I am sure I have before. But closed because the book definitely wasn’t damaged.
Results!
13/20
I don’t see any grading system with this book tag, but I am going to say that I am definitely on the nighty list. This is a little more than half, and with the American grading system, that is definitely a fail.
I guess I have been naughty this year. Maybe that is why I have been reading all these boring books this year. I haven’t had any five-star reads because I am getting coal from the bookish Santa gods!
Oh well! I guess next year is right around the corner, I will try again then.
Let me know in the comments below how you did on the Bookish Naughty or Nice tag! Are you getting 5-star reads or 3-star reads for Christmas?
