Sometimes, it is really nice to get yourself a gift. It is self-care to surprise yourself with something nice or something you like. Especially if that something is books. But I have actually been really good about not spending. I have not bought myself any books besides the one I receive in my OwlCrate. Subscription boxes like OwlCrate make it so easy to surprise yourself with a gift, especially because you don’t know what’s going to be in them!
It is such a wonderful day each time my OwlCrate shows up, and I was particularly excited about the September box. I absolutely love spooky, so when the theme was announced to be, “A Glorious Haunting,” I was so in. Plus, I knew that this box was going to include a blanket and a candle! Two of my favorite things!
Luckily, I was already a subscriber, so I didn’t even have to worry about being one of the lucky ones to get this box! If you want to know how amazing this box actually was, continue reading. If for some reason, you haven’t opened your box, there will be spoilers ahead so don’t read anymore!
1. “Raven” flannel blanket inspired by Edgar Allen Poe
This has to be the best item I have ever received in a bookish box. When I say this blanket is so soft, I mean it. It is so cozy and spooky and bookish, I am seriously obsessed with it. I will use it year round, OwlCrate should definitely add more blankets to their future boxes.
2. Pumpkin spice scented lip balm inspired by Sleepy Hallow
This smells so sweet and wonderful, I am so excited to use it. I would love to pair it with the lip scrub I got in an OwlCrate box a couple months ago, for a truly luxurious experience. This lip balm was created by Fiction Bath Co.
3. “Death Before DNF” metal bookmark
I quite literally gasped when I saw this item. It is seriously gorgeous, with the copper metal and the utterly spooky planchet and coffin shapes. It is perfect for Halloween. I will say, I did try putting it in my book and it doesn’t allow the book to close all the way which will bother me, so I don’t foresee myself using it very often. But it is truly gorgeous. This bookmark was created by Lapels and Spells.
4. “Black Flame Candle” inspired by Hocus Pocus
Yes, you heard that right. The September OwlCrate box included a black flame candle. I adore candles. I love with my room smells good, and I love the ambiance that candles give, so I was thrilled to see this candle. Especially because it was Hocus Pocus themed! The scent of the candle is bourbon and vanilla. I do love vanilla scented things but unfortunately, I can’t stand the bourbon scent, so I don’t think I will be burning this one. It will still look amazing sitting next to all my spooky books on my bookshelves. This candle was created by Novelly Yours.
5. Skull coffee spoons inspired by The Bone Houses
Wow, these are truly beautiful. I never had a need for coffee spoons until now, it definitely makes my morning coffee that much more spooky. There are three of them in three different metals, and I love using them to mix my cream and sugar into my coffee and tea!
6. Monthly Pin
This is one of my favorite pins from the OwlCrate boxes! It is so simple and spooky, it kind of reminds me of the hand from The Addams Family! But I know it is inspired by the book of the month. This pin was created by The Pickety Witch.
7. Horrid by Katrina Leno
I had not heard very much about this book before receiving it in this box. I had only seen the cover a couple times on Bookstagram. So when I received it I was interested in learning more about it. I have not read a YA horror novel though, so I’m excited. I also hear rose gardens play a big role, so YES!
I think this was one of my favorite boxes out of my year of receiving OwlCrates. Although I won’t use the candle or the bookmark, I still loved the spooky vibes of them both, along with everything else in the box.
