As always, this year is going faster than I ever expected and spring is knocking at the door. Although, you wouldn’t think so with how cold it has been recently. But cold weather is better for reading anyway, so I’m happy! More time to check out all of the March 2023 book releases that are coming up!
I promised myself that 2023 was going to be the year I fall back in love with reading. My goal is to connect more with the book community, find new favorite authors, and lose myself in some good stories.
The first two months have been slow. Sitting down and reading after a whole year off from it is challenging. It’s like exercising a muscle that’s been dormant, I get fatigued really quickly. But it is also really rewarding. I have already read two books that I have thoroughly enjoyed, and I am looking forward to adding more to this list.
Initially, I wanted to focus on reading the books I already own this year. I was so disconnected from the book community last year I didn’t even know what books were coming out, which was great for my bank account. However, this year I am well aware, which means my never-ending physical TBR might just have to wait a little bit longer.
There are so many interesting and exciting March 2023 book releases that I am looking forward to reading! To check out a comprehensive list check out Goodreads and Book List Queen. I am going to talk about the books I am most excited about!

One night many years ago, the Ramirez family lost their middle child, Ruthy, without a trace. They thought the search was hopeless until one night they spotted a woman on a reality TV series that looks suspiciously like their Ruthy, down to the birthmark under her eye. The Ramirez family along with a few tag-a-longs, decide to drive up to where the show is being filmed and confront them.
I love mystery novels so much, and this one sounds unlike anything I have read before. With an emphasis on family, I am sure this story will have a lot of heart and a lot of suspense. I think this is the book from all of the March 2023 book releases that I am most excited about.

Jax, Yas, Spider, and Han are the main characters of The Jump by Brittney Morris, a fast-paced scavenger hunt story with high stakes. These four teens from Seattle join a potentially dangerous game in order to save their families and their community from an oil refinery that is being built in their neighborhood.
This book looks like it will be full of heart, adventure, and friendship, all my favorite things! I love a good puzzle story, I am sure this book will be a lot of fun to read.

I have been in the mood for a good thriller, and What Have We Done by Alex Finlay sounds like it will quench that need. This book is about a group of now adults who met at an abusive home for parentless teens. Now, almost 25 years later, they are being hunted and killed and they have to work together in order to save each other.
Alex Finlay is the author of many very popular mystery thriller novels including The Night Shift and Every Last Fear. I have had these on my TBR for a long time, and I am excited to be adding another one to the list!

Although I am not the biggest fan of romance, I am intrigued but the premise of Flowerheart by Catherine Bakewell. This book is about Clara, who has very powerful and very dangerous magic. When she accidentally poisons her father, she has to work with her former best friend, Xavier, to try and fix it.
I guess you can throw fantasy elements and magic into any genre and I will read it! I am excited to read the book that people are calling a cottage-core fantasy romance! Seems like a book my middle-school self would have loved and I am curious if I still will.

In this debut novel by Zeba Shahnaz, Midnight Strikes, Anaïs is stuck in an endless time loop that starts when she wakes up and ends in a deadly explosion that kills herself and everyone around her. In order to escape, she must stop the explosion from happening altogether, but this may prove more difficult than it seems.
This is such a classic trope, the main character is stuck in a time loop, forced to break free. It’s a trope that has been done 1,000 times, but it is a trope that I have yet to get tired of. Hopefully, Midnight Strikes by Zeba Shshnaz lives up!

With all the action-packed mysteries and magical fantasies that I read, sometimes I want something a little quieter and closer to home, and that is usually when I turn to the literary fiction genre. Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano is about William, who despite his dark past, has met and fallen in love with Julia, who has a bright view of the world and a close relationship with her family. However, William’s past starts to come back, which may threaten their relationship and Julia’s family dynamic.
Although I love searching for murderes, and watching people discover their magic, sometimes I am in the mood for a book that focuses on emotion and character development. This is why I am so excited to read Hello Beautiful.

I don’t know a lot about what Lucha of the Night Forest by Tehlor Kay Mejia is about, but I know it has magic, darkness, and queer romance. What else could you ask for? This book follows a girl trying to protect her sister while also protecting herself. With all the positive reviews already in from advance copies of the book, I am sure this is going to turn into a favorite in the book community. Bonus, the book cover is absolutely gorgeous.

No matter what time of year it is, I am always in the mood for horror. I am also a sucker for a classic haunted house story. A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher gives me all of that, I know it’s going to be a fun and suspenseful read. This book follows Sam, who is staying with her mom for a while. However, when she enters the house she realizes that a lot of the comfort she is used to is gone and something sinister is in its place.
This gothic southern tale is sure to be full of twists and turns, I can’t wait to dive in and immerse myself in this story.

Yara may not believe her, but this leads to a deep look into her childhood and why it is still impacting her decisions and behavior now.
This book sounds deep and emotional, and I am looking forward to reading from this author.
