The Holiday Drinks Book Tag

It starts with pumpkin spiced lattés and goes to iced peppermint mochas. I am a fan of holiday drinks. Anything seasonal is immediately in my hands as soon as I enter a café or restaurant. So, when I found The Holiday Drinks Book Tag, I knew immediately that I would be answering these questions.

Because of Blogmas, I have been creating a lot of content this month. However, for some reason, my brain cannot do both. I cannot spend time reading when I am spending too much time talking about reading.

This means I don’t have any new books to talk about in my content. It is an endless circle of misery!

But, I am going to start reading Beasts of Prey by Ayana Gray this week, and I am excited to dive back into a fantasy world again. I haven’t read a good fantasy in a long time, so this should be fun!

Plus, I get to talk about it with the other members of my book club with Literati, which is always my favorite. I hate that I am a couple of weeks late in joining the discussion, but I am ready to get into the book and read everyone’s thoughts!

But anyway, let’s have some fun today, and get into The Holiday Drinks Book Tag! I found this book tag of Carla Loves to Read, so go check out their site and their answers to these questions here! The original creator of this tag is Waves of Pages, so check them out as well!

1. Hot Chocolate: Marshmallows and chocolate and whipped cream, oh my! Recommend a book that’s sweet through and through.

Heartstopper by Alice Oseman

When I think of sweet books, I think of books that made me smile the whole way through. Full of warmth and joy, Heartstopper by Alice Oseman did just that. This book was so so sweet, I can’t even begin to describe it. This book is about the relationship that develops between Charlie and Nick at a British boarding school.

This is the kind of story that will make you burrow under the covers because you are blushing at how adorable the characters are. Definitely one of my top favorite graphic novels!

2. Peppermint Mocha: The flavor of peppermint is strong and distinct. Recommend a book with a lot of strong emotions.

The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yoko Ogowa book cover

After reading The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yoko Ogawa, I was left feeling very melancholy and sad, but also warm and happy. Somehow, this author struck me in so many emotions by the end of this book with such a simple story.

This novel is about a very intelligent math professor whose short-term memory only lasts 80 minutes. So his housekeeper and her son must reintroduce themselves every day. Through their quirky interactions, a deep friendship emerges.

This was one of my favorite reads of the year. It was heartwarming and cozy! Just as I like it!

3. Apple Cider: It’s so good it can’t be good for you, but it’s made from apples—that means it’s healthy, right? Recommend a book full of characters with questionable morals.

Wilder Girls by Rory Power book cover

I definitely felt like all the adults in Wilder Girls by Rory Power had pretty questionable morals. At some points, it wasn’t even questionable, it was just plain immoral. But nevertheless, I really enjoyed reading this book.

Wilder Girls is about Raxtor School for Girls, which has been put under quarantine because of a mysterious disease that is plaguing the students. The government is not doing a lot to assist them, and the ones in charge might not be who they say they are.

4. Eggnog: It’s creamy and smooth, with a little spice, and some people even add alcohol to it. Recommend a book that’s mostly fun, with just a hint of danger.

book cover of lumberjanes

I absolutely loved reading Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson, Grace Ellis, Shannon Watters, Brooklyn Allen, Maarta Laiho, and Aubrey Aiese. The groups of characters were such a blast to read, while also adding in a little danger along the way. This is another graphic novel that put a smile on my face the entire time I was reading it.

This story is about a group of campers at a summer camp. As they try to enjoy some normal camp activities like boating and campfire stories, they are interrupted by something magical. This little dash of danger amongst all the fun and joy made this a really fun read.

5. Gingerbread latte: A drink with a veritable explosion of spices. Recommend a book with a lot of action.

Book cover of The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

I don’t really read a lot of action-filled books, so this prompt was difficult to answer. But I definitely think that The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang has a lot of action in it. The characters were moving from place to place, fighting, and using magic. That qualifies as action, right?

This book follows Rin, who is accepted into the best military training school in the country. At this school, she finds a power within her that she never knew she had. A couple of years later, the war begins and she is drafted to fight.

This was one of the top books I read this year. I was so impressed by the writing and characters. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the series.

These prompts for The Holiday Drinks Book Tag were so fun! The questions were spot on in relation to the drinks they were based on.
