I am going to be honest, I was planning my blogging schedule for this month when I came across the Halloweentown Book Tag that I did on my blog last year. I thought, “oh, that is a great idea! I love that movie.” When I opened it, I learned that I had actually created it myself! I know, I can’t believe I forgot too! But I am so happy that I did because I have been meaning to create an original book tag for years, of course it makes sense that I did it for one of my favorite movies from one of my favorite seasons of the year.
Halloweentown is such a classic Disney Halloween movie. There are a lot of those Disney Channel Originals (you can find my list of favorites here) but Halloweentown is by far my top choice, and it is definitely all due to nostalgia. It is not the acting or the costuming… But, whatever it is that makes me love it so much, the Halloweentown series is something I make sure I watch every October. I am 3 movies into the 4 movie series, and I am feeling so spooky and wonderfully autumnal.
So, what a better time than to do my very own Book Tag for the movie! Maybe one day I will create a Halloweentown II Book Tag!
Halloween Gives Kids Ideas About There Being Magic: Name a book that is full of magic
Well, last year I used The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern for these questions, so it makes sense that I would upgrade to The Starless Sea. Although this book was full of so many twists and turns that sometimes I had no idea what was happening, it was one of my favorite reads of the year, and it is definitely full of magic. I really want to reread it next year so I can capture more of this beautiful, magical world.
Halloween is Cool: Name one book from your October TBR
For a while, I was nervous that I wasn’t going to get to this book because I was so determined to finish the 20 books I set to read before the end of 2020. But, now that I am looking at it, there are like 16 books that I have to still finish from the list so… it’s not happening. So instead of trying and failing at that, I am throwing that list away to read Mexican Gothic, which is supposed to be so spooky and so atmospheric! I can’t wait.
Nobody Really Appreciates my Taste in Weird Stuff: Name your favorite underrated read
These Witches Don’t Burn by Isabel Sterling is definitely not underrated, but I haven’t heard many people talking about it recently, and it’s sequel that came out this year! I know, you are probably looking at me like… “Jackie, everyone knows about that book.” Well, maybe I just have been missing it, but I only have seen it posted to on my Bookstagram feed once or twice! This book is so good, I am so excited to finally read the sequel!
The Cromwell’s are Powerful Witches, and it Took the Power of all of them to Defeat the Evil: Name a powerful fictional family
Mirage by Somaiya Daud was one of my favorite reads this year. I had never read a book like this, I thought the concept and characters were so unique. Princess Maram and her family hold so much power over the people they rule, and especially over the main character, Amani. The power they display is not always good, but it is definitely there. The sequel came out a couple months ago and I am so ready to continue on with this story.
Halloweentown was Written About in a Book, So Maybe It’s Real, Maybe It’s Not: Name your favorite non-fiction or historical fiction book
Lol, so I don’t read a lot of non-fiction or historical fiction… even though I really want to start reading more. But anyway, here is the last non-fiction that I read, Dear Evan Hansen: Waving Through the Window by Steven Levenson. I loved reading this book about the creation of my favorite musical, so it definitely was enjoyable!
Mayor Kalabar Wants Revenge: Name a book you thought you would enjoy but ended up not
I had heard how spooky and fantastical House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig was before I read it, so this was one of my five-star predictions. This was something I was going into with really high hopes and it… didn’t exactly work out. I was very meh about this book. Not saying it was a bad book, but it wasn’t a favorite. You can see my review of this book here, for all my thoughts.
Instant Witch’s Brew, Sometimes it Works, Sometimes it Doesn’t: Name your favorite or least favorite book under 200 pages
I am sticking with my answer from last year because I haven’t read any short books lately. I absolutely adored Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. It was so magical and heartwarming, and I love the characters. Yes, a year later and I still need to read the rest of the books in the series. I will… one day.
Time Works Differently in Halloweentown: Name a book that was so good it made time stop
When I was listening to the audiobook of A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown, I forgot what time it was. I would spend hours listening to the book and only think 10 minutes had passed. I truly loved the story and the characters, especially Malik. And I loved the anxiety rep in it, and how important a role it played.
Mortal See, Mortals Do: Name a book with non-human character interacting with human characters
I love ghost stories the best, and The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James is one of those horror stories! I loved the juxtaposition between the spooky haunted motel and the murder mystery that was going on. This story definitely kept me on my toes!
Luke Helps Save the Day: Name a character you thought was bad but ended up having redeeming qualities
Is it cheating if i put a book I am currently reading? Oh well. From the start I thought Turner was bad and on the side of the stuck up higher ups that Alex was dealing with. But at the point of the story I am in, you can tell that he actually isn’t that bad. he is helping Alex out. Maybe he is just a little scared of everything happening at Lethe.
An Evil Force is at Work in Halloweentown, We Have to put Merlin’s Talisman in the Giant Pumpkin to Save Everybody: Name your favorite fictional villain and hero
Oh no, did I put The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins again?! Hoe could I! JK, of course I am putting them, their dynamic is the best I have ever written. If you have any suggestions fro good villain/hero interactions, let me know in the comments below!
Halloweentown is Saved: Name a book with a really satisfying ending
Watching Ever from Loveboat, Taipei by Abigail Hing Wen get her dreams, and her father their to see her do what she loves was more satisfying than anything I have ever read. I so enjoyed this book, you can see my full thoughts on it here.
Wow, I really made this tag super long. I think I was just having so much fun creating questions based on the movie. If there are too many questions, or you just don’t like a question feel free to pull some out!
I am not going to tag anyone specifically because I want everyone who sees this to do it! I would love to have people do this tag, and definitely let me know if you do, I would love to read yur answers.
Let me know in the comments below what your favorite Disney Channel Original Halloween Movies is!
